Filing a claim
To file a claim, please contact your agent. If you're not sure how to get in touch with your agent, please call our home office at (800) 345-2054.
If you have Storage Insurance, please call our Storage division at (800) 847-9999.
If you have Renter's Insurance, please call our Renter's division at (800) 548-1616.
Claims handling
We do our best to see to it that your claim is resolved as quickly as possible. Once we have been notified of a claim, we will contact you directly and send written acknowledgement. Depending on the complexity of the claim, we may hire, at our expense, an independent adjuster to review the information and help determine the amount of loss.
Receipts and documentation
While you are not required to have receipts they generally are a convenient way to keep a record of your property. Pictures and video tapes are also great ways to document your property before a loss occurs.
You will be asked to establish the value of property that is lost, damaged, or destroyed. We will work with you to develop reasonable documentation necessary to process your claim.
Basis of Loss Payment
Many of our policies provide replacement cost coverage. If your lost or damaged insured property is repaired or replaced, payment will be based on the amount actually and reasonably expended to repair or replace with property of like kind and quality. If you choose not to replace the insured property, or if your policy does not provide replacement cost coverage, your loss will be paid on an actual cash value basis.
